The Gita is our first ever short-sleeved style jacket with our signature v-seam on the back, it is fully reversible and is first ever belted style!
As you probably know, we don't come out with new jackets very often, so the Gita launch feels really exciting, and of course there's a bit of a backstory...
We knew the fabric needed to be special - so we designed block print motifs and printed them on sunbleached kantha quilts.
We're jacket obsessed at Namai, so when the weather gets warmer, it can be hard to part with our jackets. That's why we knew we needed a summer jacket, and it needed to feel different from the rest of our offering.
We imagined a jacket that would work with shorts, but also as a coverup by the pool, or thrown over a hoodie on a flight. We also knew it needed big pockets to hold sunglasses and essentials after a long day in the sun.
Last year we started designing the prints and working on the quilts, block printing over sun faded kanthas to add a summery vibe while keeping the rich texture alive and making both sides of the reversible jacket feel unique. We even overdyed some of the fabrics when the prints came out too bright.
When I was in Jaipur in January, I worked with our tailors on refining the fit, adding the folded sleeve detail, and making sure the length was just right. I can't wait to start wearing it now that the weather is warmer.
